Selena Gomez and Her Mother Accused of $1.2 Million Fraud Over Mental Health Startup

Selena Gomez is facing serious legal trouble over her mental health startup Wondermind. Investors have filed a lawsuit against the singer, her mother Mandy Teefey and former business partner Daniella Pierson, accusing them of misleading investors and raising around $1.2 million.

According to the lawsuit, filed on August 13, investors expected Gomez to play an active role in developing Wondermind and use her public profile to promote the project. The documents allege that she signed an agreement outlining her involvement in the company but later failed to fulfill her commitments.

The investors’ claims go beyond Gomez’s involvement. They allege that the startup’s management created the impression that the company was developing major partnerships and new projects, some of which were never actually launched. The lawsuit also mentions a Wondermind app that, according to the plaintiffs, was never created.

Investors further claim that they were unaware of serious problems within the company for several years. According to their allegations, Wondermind faced financial difficulties, delays in employee payments and other organizational issues that investors learned about only much later.

Gomez, her mother and Pierson launched Wondermind in 2021. The project was envisioned as a space where users could talk about their mental well-being, access useful content and find tools to support their mental health.

The subject was particularly personal for Gomez. When Wondermind launched in 2021, she said she had always tried to use her voice to support projects she genuinely believed in and specifically thanked her mother for supporting her in creating the company.

The startup is now at the center of a very different conversation. The investors are seeking to recover their investments and reimbursement for expenses related to the legal proceedings. Gomez’s representative has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
