Michael Jackson’s Daughter Paris Jackson Reveals She Underwent ECT and Shares Shocking Details of Depression Treatment

According to Paris, she agreed to the treatment when she was “inches” away from taking a fatal step. Over the course of just three weeks, the singer underwent nine ECT sessions, which she herself described as “the process of getting electricity shot through you.”

Paris revealed that the experience directly inspired the cover art for her second studio album, Happiest Day of My Life. The image shows a hand holding the artist by the chin, her eyes wide with tension and a mouth guard placed between her teeth.

“You come in, you put on a hospital gown, they knock you out with anesthesia, they strap you down, put a mouth guard in your mouth and shock you,” the singer said, describing the procedure.

Although her psychiatrist assured her that modern medicine had come a long way and that the treatment was no longer as “barbaric” as it once was, the reality proved difficult.

Paris confirmed that the first sessions were extremely painful and that the side effects were “horrific.”

After waking from anesthesia, the singer experienced severe headaches caused by intense muscle contractions triggered by the electrical stimulation.

The resulting memory loss also caused Paris to temporarily lose track of reality. She recalled that friends visited her during that period, but she had no memory of those encounters or conversations — with photographs serving as the only evidence that they had happened.

Because Paris has multiple piercings, she had to remove all the metal from her face before each treatment and replace it with plastic jewelry.

The therapy did produce results and helped improve the brain’s neuroplasticity. Paris described ECT as one of the most effective treatments she had tried for depression. However, she said she was not willing to undergo such “shock treatments once a month for the rest of my life.”

Before turning to ECT, the singer had tried virtually everything: an endless succession of medications, treatment at five different rehabilitation centers, CBD, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), ketamine, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) sessions and even injections of lidocaine into the nerves in her neck.

Today, Paris is focusing on holistic health, integrating what she has learned into her everyday life and working with a specialist on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

The singer says that this comprehensive approach is what helps her maintain emotional stability and continue pursuing her creative career.
