Sex party at city hall: "Germany’s craziest" politician plans to turn Mannheim into a swinger paradise

The idea came to Ferrat after a trip to the French naturist village of Cap d'Agde in the south of the country. The politician attempted to organize a familiarization trip for citizens to popularize the idea of non-monogamous relationships.

Now, he intends to make Mannheim a convenient pit stop for Scandinavian and northern German swingers for whom traveling all the way to Cap d'Agde is too far.

In his opinion, attracting naturist tourists would be an excellent way to boost the city budget.

Ferrat stated that the city hall building is ideally suited for hosting a sex party and claims he has already found about 50 potential participants. He plans to personally meet with each one to vet their intentions.

According to the politician's estimates, there are around 128,000 swingers in Germany, and developing this direction could support the local economy. Furthermore, the event aims to break down societal taboos.

The initiative sparked sharp discontent from local authorities. A spokesperson for the Mannheim mayor's office told SWR that the politician's plans raise "serious doubts regarding their admissibility and practical implementation." The administration noted that Ferrat has specified neither a concrete date nor a venue, nor has he explained how such events align with his duties as a city council member.

Ferrat first joined the city council in 2014 and was reelected to a new term in 2024. Back in 2017, Die Zeit dubbed him "Germany's craziest MP." Meanwhile, the official website of his party lists entirely traditional priorities as its main goals: fighting rising rents, improving safety, and enhancing healthcare.
