10:30 27 August, 2026Melania Trump reportedly harbors deep resentment toward her husband, Donald Trump. Presidential biographer Michael Wolff made the claim while commenting on the first lady’s rare public appearances alongside the US president, according to RadarOnline.
The 56-year-old first lady recently returned to the spotlight after several weeks of virtually no public appearances. Her return came amid heightened interest in the dynamics within the presidential team, particularly the 35-year-old aide Natalie Harp, who has frequently been seen alongside Donald Trump.
Michael Wolff discussed what he claims is Melania’s attitude toward her husband during an appearance on Joanna Coles’ Inside Trump’s Head podcast.
According to the author, during Trump’s presidential campaign, he once asked a senior member of Trump’s team why Melania rarely appeared with her husband at campaign events.
“When I tried to find out why, this person looked at me as if I were a complete idiot and said, ‘You want to know why? The reason is that she can’t stand him,’” Wolff claimed.
The biographer also alleged that the couple “barely talk to each other” and “rarely spend time together.”
Wolff also recalled the 2024 presidential election, when, he said, there were doubts about whether Melania would appear alongside her husband at the Republican National Convention following the assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“She simply didn’t want to sit next to her husband. Not because he might get shot, but because she hates him,” the author claimed.
Against the backdrop of Wolff’s allegations, particular attention has been drawn to the couple’s recent appearance together.
Over the weekend, Donald Trump and Melania helped kick off the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, an IndyCar event in Washington.
Despite smiling for the cameras, a lip-reading expert claimed that the couple had a rather tense exchange.
According to the expert’s interpretation, Melania told her husband, “That’s the problem — people react.”
Trump allegedly replied, “Well, stop it.”
The first lady then reportedly asked, “And you?” before adding, “This happened twice… I can’t anymore,” according to the lip-reading transcript.
Social media users also noticed the unusually active interaction between the couple in public.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen them talk this much in public,” one commenter wrote. Another suggested that Melania appeared visibly irritated.
The first lady’s rare public appearances have previously fueled speculation about the state of her marriage.
According to the outlet, before her most recent events, Melania had appeared in public only around 16 times since the beginning of 2026. Former deputy White House press secretary Sarah Matthews claimed that the first lady prefers to stay away from political life — except in cases where she is compensated for taking part.
Matthews, who worked on Trump’s campaign and later in the White House, made the comments on the podcast On Sunday with Jack Cocchiarella. She said she had never personally met the first lady despite holding her position.
The former staffer also alleged that Melania was paid to attend some campaign events during Trump’s first presidential run in 2016.
Melania herself has previously strongly rejected suggestions that she married Trump purely for financial reasons.
In a 1999 interview with ABC News, years before her husband entered the White House, she was asked about rumors that she was a “gold digger.”
“People who say that don’t know me,” Melania replied at the time.
She also argued that material possessions cannot replace human relationships.
“You cannot sleep with, hug or talk to beautiful things — a beautiful apartment, a beautiful airplane, beautiful cars or beautiful houses,” the future first lady said.
Melania and Donald Trump married in 2005. She is 24 years younger than her husband. Despite years of speculation about tension in their marriage, the couple continues to appear together at select official events.
