Cher declares war on her daughter-in-law, accusing her of chasing her son’s money

Cher has filed court papers in Los Angeles objecting to the appointment of her daughter-in-law, Mariangela King-Allman, as the conservator of her 50-year-old son, Elijah Blue Allman.

The conservatorship dispute came before the court after Allman, who is currently facing legal and mental health issues, was placed under psychiatric care. Earlier this year, he was arrested twice.

King-Allman, 39, filed a petition to have herself appointed conservator on August 18. However, on August 28, Cher, through her attorney Justin Gold, filed an objection, according to the Daily Mail.

In her filing, Cher said that her family is firmly opposed to King-Allman being given the authority to represent Elijah’s interests.

According to the singer, her relatives believe that her daughter-in-law is “returning to his life in pursuit of money and/or a modicum of fame.”

The dispute escalated less than two months after, on July 7, a New Hampshire state hospital initiated conservatorship proceedings for Allman, covering both his person and his estate. Cher said the documents proposed appointing his half-brothers, Chaz Bono and Devon Allman, to handle those responsibilities.

Cher claims that the couple have had serious problems in their relationship for years.

Elijah and Mariangela first married in 2013. In 2021, King-Allman filed for divorce, but the case was dismissed in February 2024. In April 2025, she initiated divorce proceedings again, citing “irreconcilable differences.” That case was closed in June 2026.

According to Cher, when she began pursuing a conservatorship for her son, King-Allman had already been estranged from him for several months.

The singer claimed that her daughter-in-law “did not lift a finger to help” her husband, despite repeated requests from his assistant, Kaiti Pease, for her to support him during a period when he was experiencing serious difficulties and had not yet been arrested.

Cher further alleged that Elijah refused to meet with his wife on three separate occasions when she traveled to New Hampshire to visit him.

“Given her conduct and indifference to his health and living conditions throughout the past year, she should in no way be considered a suitable candidate for appointment by the court as his fiduciary,” Cher stated in her filing.

According to Cher’s account, King-Allman may view being appointed conservator as a way to gain control over her husband’s income.

The singer told the court that she believes her daughter-in-law saw the situation as “a financial opportunity to control his income,” while his confinement presented her with a chance to re-enter his life and regain influence over him.

King-Allman strongly disputes that characterization.

In documents filed earlier, she claimed that she had not been properly notified of the conservatorship proceedings and argued that she should be the person handling the matter.

King-Allman also argued that Elijah’s recovery could be harmed if Cher is allowed to choose his conservator — a woman with whom, she claims, he has had a difficult relationship for many years.
