Amouage Pushes Fragrance to the Edge: Two New Scents About Lightning, the Stage and the Will to Survive

Fragrance house Amouage is expanding its Exceptional Extraits collection with two new creations — Decision 42 and Overture 41. Here, familiar compositions take on a far more intense and dramatic character: rather than simply strengthening the formulas, the brand revisits and reimagines the stories at their heart.

According to Amouage Creative Director Renaud Salmon, both fragrances were originally built around extreme emotions. Overture Woman tells the story of an understudy who is suddenly forced to take the stage in place of a star who has fallen ill, while Decision evokes a tree struck by lightning and left fighting for survival.

Decision 42: After the Lightning Strike

Together with perfumer Quentin Bisch, Salmon has intensified the drama of the original Decision. Neroli, cardamom and cinnamon evoke the electrical shock itself, while juniper — a symbol of the tree — takes on a darker character through patchouli and purified pine tar.

Vanilla and labdanum emerge in the base, adding warmth and a sense of resilience to the composition. The central question remains the same: will the tree survive? In the new version, the answer feels more uncertain — and more urgent — than ever.

Decision 42 has an Extrait de Parfum concentration of 42%, is aged for six weeks and belongs to the amber woody aromatic fragrance family.

Overture 41: The Understudy Becomes a Diva

Perfumer Annick Menardo has returned to her original Overture Woman, transforming its heroine from a nervous understudy into a fully fledged diva.

Saffron, Calvados and rose unfold on a grander scale, while an intensified base of patchouli and leather gives the fragrance a more theatrical edge. A new sweet, resinous-amber accord adds depth, while Drèches sandalwood absolute, made from recycled sandalwood shavings, provides richness and lasting power.

Overture 41 is created at a 41% concentration, aged for six weeks and belongs to the amber woody spicy fragrance family.

The 100 ml Extrait de Parfum is priced at approximately €510.
