10-Year-Old Fashion Prodigy Is Already Dressing Sharon Stone and J.Lo — and Dreams of Conquering New York

Ten-year-old Max Alexander is a true phenomenon in the fashion world. The young designer, who began sewing dresses at the age of four, has already made history as the youngest person to independently create a collection for a runway show, the New York Post reports.

Max, who learned to sew and launched his own fashion label at the age of five, is now in fifth grade. Some 16 million people follow his career on social media, although the boy himself is not allowed to use social media.

“I’m not allowed on social media,” Alexander told The Post during his visit to New York for Fashion Week, which runs through September 15.

The young designer, however, knows exactly which celebrities are following his meteoric career. “Martha Stewart, J.Lo,” Max proudly listed.

On September 14, he will unveil his new sustainable MOOD Fabrics X Max collection at a private event at Mood Fabrics in New York, one of the city’s key destinations for fashion professionals in the Garment District.

The Los Angeles native has already created more than 200 dresses, scarves, blankets, kimonos and jackets in his home studio. His clients include genuine Hollywood stars.

“I made a fluffy fur jacket for Sharon Stone and a green faux-fur coat for Debra Messing,” he said.

His clients also include model Coco Rocha, for whom Max designed a white pleated dress.

The young designer has two labels of his own — Max Alexander and Couture To The Max. Prices range from $22.99 for small accessories to $329.99 for a dress. Max’s work has already appeared in Vogue.

His love of fashion is practically in his blood. His great-grandfather worked as a tailor, while his grandfather owned a dressmaking atelier in Montreal.

During his short career, Max has already worked on professional projects in Paris, Madrid and Toronto. But New York, he says, is something completely different.

“Here in New York, everything is so black,” Max observed.

The young entrepreneur is particularly proud that his clothing is not only unusual and fun, but also environmentally friendly.

“I usually use recycled or sustainable materials, like wood pulp… That’s my thing. I love sustainable fashion,” Max explains.

For his collections, he has already used recycled Tiffany bags, coffee sacks, old curtains and even a military parachute.

The young designer already holds two Guinness World Records. At the age of seven, he became the youngest person in the world to create his own runway show, and at 10, he became the youngest designer to present a show during Paris Fashion Week.

During New York Fashion Week, Max plans to set two more world records — becoming the fastest person to thread a sewing machine and the youngest designer to launch his own fabric collection.

The young designer’s story has already impressed people so much that a documentary has been made about him. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.

Max recalls the designer who inspired him from an early age — although he is still only 10.

“I really loved [Christian] Dior,” he said.

In the future, the boy dreams of attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Today, one of his sources of inspiration is designer Pamella Roland.

“She makes fun and very colorful things. A lot of designers don’t do that. It’s strange,” Max says.

Despite his young age, he already talks about fashion like a true professional — and judging by his ambitions, he certainly has no intention of stopping at two Guinness World Records.
