Glamorous Influencer Dies at 40 After Secret Battle With Depression and Debilitating Illness

Glamorous influencer Madalina Apostol has died in an apparent suicide, just weeks after promising on her 40th birthday that she would “choose life” despite a secret battle with depression and debilitating pain.

The mother of three, who divided her time between Los Angeles and Mexico, died on Sunday. Her partner, millionaire businessman Nick Radoi, described her death as “an immense pain” and “a tragedy that is difficult to put into words.”

According to Radoi, Apostol took her own life after secretly battling an autoimmune disease that caused her severe pain. She had also previously struggled with depression and, in the months leading up to her death, sought psychiatric help in her native Romania.

Her partner believes this explains a cryptic post Madalina shared at the beginning of last month while celebrating her 40th birthday. She quoted the most famous lines from Prince Hamlet’s soliloquy in William Shakespeare’s tragedy.

“Finally, I have an answer to the question that has haunted me for so long: ‘To be or not to be?’” she wrote. “I choose to be, because the other option was never my destiny,” Apostol added, projecting an optimism that, tragically, did not last long.

In recent months, Apostol had become increasingly private, but one day before her death she shared her final post. She posted photos from a decade ago showing her sons getting ready for school.

“Madalina was an extraordinary person, a loving mother, a kind-hearted human being and a person with a deep faith in God. She was loved, supported and surrounded by people until the very last moment,” Radoi said.

Speaking about her physical and psychological condition, he added: “It is a cruel illness, and only those who have ever faced it or continue to battle it can truly understand what it means.”

“The illness came to take control of her thoughts and her soul,” he said.
