21-Year-Old Brazilian Blogger Shot Dead Outside Her Home a Week After Her Release From Custody

Twenty-one-year-old Brazilian blogger Evelyn Lima Dantas was shot dead outside her home on September 16.

Dantas was popular on social media, with more than 150,000 followers across her TikTok and Instagram accounts, the latter of which has since been deactivated. She regularly shared content about her daily life, beauty and fitness.

According to a police report obtained by Brazilian news outlet g1, authorities in the municipality of Mãe do Rio in northern Brazil received reports of several gunshots early Wednesday morning. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Dantas’s body, after she had been shot and left outside one of the homes in a residential neighborhood.

According to the young woman’s relatives, who reported the incident to military police, two men broke into the house, dragged Evelyn outside and shot her several times. The attackers then spray-painted the initials “TCP” on a wall — reportedly referring to the Brazilian criminal group Terceiro Comando Puro, or “Pure Third Command” — before fleeing in a car.

Police said Dantas herself had come under investigation shortly before her death. In July, she was arrested as part of an investigation into the murder of a local police sergeant. She was released from custody on September 9 on provisional release.

Investigators are now examining a possible connection between her killing and the earlier criminal case.
