Louis Vuitton Turns Handbags Into Art Objects With a Keith Haring Collection

Louis Vuitton has unveiled a new collection of limited-edition Artycapucines handbags created in collaboration with the Keith Haring Foundation. The capsule features 13 designs decorated with the iconic drawings and characters of the legendary American artist, WWD reports.

The first pieces will be presented at Art Basel Paris, where they will be displayed on the Louis Vuitton booth alongside handbags from previous Artycapucines editions. The space will open to the public on October 23, while worldwide sales of the new collection will begin on January 1.

The story of the collaboration dates back to the 1980s, when Haring painted his famous Radiant Baby on a vintage Louis Vuitton trunk. Decades later, the artifact became the starting point for the brand’s official partnership with the artist’s foundation.

In May 2026, Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton’s artistic director of women’s collections, opened the brand’s Cruise 2027 show in New York with a model carrying that same priceless trunk. Now, its image has been digitally printed onto the Capucines MM Genesis handbag and the Valisette Genesis mini case, preserving the distinctive patina of the original.

To create the Artycapucines pieces, Louis Vuitton’s artisans used leather marquetry, laser printing, embroidery, embossing and enamel detailing.

The Capucines BB Holiday features dolphins swimming alongside human figures. The vibrant pink-and-blue design is crafted on calfskin and embellished with ostrich leather and karung inlays.

Haring’s 1984 artwork Running Heart adorns an evening clutch covered with more than 12,000 crystals.

Louis Vuitton describes Radiant Baby as a symbol of birth, hope and the infinite potential of life. According to the brand, Haring’s drawing transformed an ordinary vintage trunk into a unique work of art and a rare artifact of New York’s cultural era in the 1980s.

The Artycapucines pieces will form the most exclusive part of a larger Louis Vuitton collection dedicated to Haring. In addition to the handbags, the brand will present clothing, leather goods and accessories. Each design combines the artist’s instantly recognizable graphics with Louis Vuitton’s traditional craftsmanship, turning the accessories into collectible works of art.
