Ivanka Trump Recreates Rihanna’s Iconic Fashion Move — in a Chinese Designer’s Version

Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, appeared at the White House during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit wearing a striking creation by renowned Chinese designer Guo Pei.

Ivanka chose a rich blue look consisting of a robin’s-egg-blue dress and a matching cape. The outfit featured an unusual design with four square pockets placed across the chest and hips, while a dramatic headpiece with bell sleeves echoed the silhouette of the dress. Both the dress and cape were embellished with intricate white embroidery.

Ivanka attended the official events alongside members of the US administration and military officials. Xi Jinping’s visit appeared to have a distinctly blue color palette: Vice President JD Vance opted for a deep cobalt-blue tie, while his wife, Usha Vance, wore a silk Saloni dress in a similar shade.

Ivanka was also joined by her 15-year-old daughter, Arabella Kushner. She wore a white belted midi dress by Self-Portrait, a brand also favored by Catherine, Princess of Wales.

But it was Ivanka’s choice of designer that proved particularly noteworthy.

Guo Pei is widely regarded as China’s most famous fashion designer. Her name became known around the world after Rihanna appeared at the 2015 Met Gala wearing her now-iconic yellow gown.

The look was created for the evening’s “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme and instantly went down in red-carpet history.

Rihanna arrived on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in a spectacular canary-yellow gown covered in fur and intricate gold embroidery. The dress weighed nearly 25 kilograms, while its enormous train cascaded down the museum steps.

The dramatic look instantly became iconic, generating countless photographs and memes and cementing Guo Pei’s place on the global fashion stage.
