Netflix Star Accuses Israel of Genocide in Gaza

American actor Adam Brody, known for the series The O.C. and the Netflix romantic comedy Nobody Wants This, has spoken publicly about Israel’s war in Gaza, saying that he considers what is happening there genocide. The actor also suggested that Hollywood has become noticeably more conservative during Donald Trump’s second presidential term.

Brody, who plays a rabbi in Nobody Wants This, made the comments in an interview with GQ about his political activism and volunteer work with the organization Swing Left. The actor had previously said very little publicly about the conflict in the Middle East, but acknowledged that he had discussed the issue in private conversations.

“I consider it genocide. I’m for a free Palestine. It’s awful that it took so much death and suffering for this to happen, but it seems like we’re approaching a turning point that should have come a long time ago,” Brody said.

“I hope the next administration can really do a lot and undo some of the political decisions that are contributing to the situation remaining so terrible,” he added.

Brody’s comments echo statements by other prominent figures in American culture, including actor Mark Ruffalo and rapper Macklemore, who have also described Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide.

Speaking about political activism in Hollywood, Brody said that celebrities have become more cautious about making public statements on political issues. The actor himself acknowledged that he is not willing to discuss politics in every interview.

According to Brody, there was a noticeable surge in political activism in Hollywood and other parts of society after Trump’s first election victory.

“There was so much activism. People were running for office who had never done that before. It was horrible to watch him desecrate our government, our country, our reputation, and really turn people against one another. It felt to me like a huge portion of the country immediately came out against it,” the actor said.

Brody believes that during Trump’s first presidential term, it was easier for celebrities to speak out openly against him.

“It was completely safe to speak out against him then. The second time around, the power of the presidency became stronger. Corporations started supporting him in ways they hadn’t before. People had to risk a lot more to stand against it. It just felt like the public mood wasn’t there anymore,” he said.

“The country decided that it wanted to go in this direction. But as we build momentum toward these elections, it becomes interesting again. We’re starting to feel our power again,” Brody said.

He also suggested that Hollywood has become more openly conservative during Trump’s second term.

“When one side gains more power, it makes sense that it attracts people for very human reasons: herd mentality, concern for their own well-being, money and success,” the actor explained.
