George Clooney is taking on a new profession. The 65-year-old Hollywood actor is becoming a restaurateur and is opening an Italian restaurant in southern France, just months after he and his wife, Amal, obtained French citizenship and made the country their main family residence, according to the Daily Mail.

The new restaurant will open in the picturesque Provençal village of Cotignac, near the sprawling estate where Clooney lives with 48-year-old Amal and their nine-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander.

The opening is scheduled for next spring. Clooney is partnering on the project with Canadian hotelier Graham Porter, owner of the nearby Lou Calen hotel.

For Clooney, the venture is a perfect combination of two of his great European passions: his love of France and his longstanding affection for Italy, where his famous villa on Lake Como has been his home for more than two decades.

Renovations at the future restaurant are already underway. The venue will occupy the former Les 3 Marches restaurant at 11 Cours Gambetta. The project’s name, chef and menu are being kept under wraps for now.

The new restaurant will be located around 20 kilometers from Domaine du Canadel, the wine estate near Brignoles that George and Amal purchased in 2021 and which has increasingly become their main family home in recent years.

Clooney, Amal and their children obtained French citizenship in December 2025, following the official publication of their naturalization decree in the French government’s official journal.

The actor has previously explained why his family has been spending more time in France. According to Clooney, he appreciates being able to raise Ella and Alexander away from Hollywood’s spotlight and the constant attention of the paparazzi.
