Kim Kardashian has turned to the fashion legacy of Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor for the second season of All’s Fair. In the show’s new trailer, the star appears in a dramatic hooded velvet cape that Taylor famously wore back in 1969.

Kardashian’s character, Allura Grant, once again gets a wardrobe that blends the star’s personal pieces with iconic vintage fashion. This time, the inspiration comes from an outfit Taylor wore at a celebration of Princess Grace of Monaco’s 40th birthday.

The black velvet hooded cape features two scorpion motifs, one on the chest and another on the inside of the hood. Its lining is made of rich ivory-colored silk. In the series trailer, Sarah Paulson’s character, Carrington Lane, is also seen wearing the same cape, suggesting that multiple versions of the historic garment may have been created for filming.

A Cape with a History

The original piece, known as the Scorpio Evening Cape, was created by the Rome-based fashion house Tiziani Roma. Elizabeth Taylor paired it with her famous Taylor-Burton diamond necklace, featuring a 69.42-carat pendant.

In 2011, the cape went under the hammer at Christie’s as part of a major auction of Taylor’s personal collection. Including the buyer’s premium, it sold for $74,500.

It remains unclear whether Kardashian acquired the original at auction, purchased it later from a private owner, or simply recreated the iconic look for the series. Judging by the trailer footage, the production also prepared a piece of jewelry resembling the actress’s famous diamond necklace.

Christie’s lot description noted that Karl Lagerfeld was working as a freelance designer for Tiziani Roma at the time, meaning the cape may well have been his creation.
