15:24 10 October, 2026Kai Trump’s freshman year at the University of Miami has become a hot topic on social media. The 19-year-old granddaughter of US President Donald Trump has faced backlash after showing off her luxurious off-campus apartment and sharing a video of a $531 shopping spree for beauty products.
Users have compared her spending and living arrangements with the financial struggles many college students face. Some have branded her lifestyle “spoiled” and out of touch with reality, while others have pointed out that being a member of the president’s family comes with special security requirements.
Luxury Apartment and a $531 Beauty Haul
In a YouTube video, Kai gave viewers a tour of the two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment where she lives alone. The property features a spacious kitchen, a modern fireplace, a separate office and a walk-in closet.
Kai admitted that she felt “very, very lucky,” acknowledging the privileged position she is in. However, her comments did little to stem the wave of criticism.
Others came to her defense, arguing that a typical college dorm might not provide the level of security required for the granddaughter of a US president.
Another round of online debate erupted when Kai posted a video of a shopping trip to Sephora in Miami. After consulting a makeup artist about achieving a natural look, she purchased 16 beauty products for a total of $531.79.
Her haul included products from Dior, YSL Beauty, Charlotte Tilbury, Hourglass and Summer Fridays.
The purchase sparked outrage on social media, with users comparing the cost of her beauty haul to what ordinary students spend on groceries and everyday essentials. Some urged her to consider the financial realities faced by other young people.
‘I’m Here for Golf, Not Parties’
However, Kai’s life in Miami may not be as carefree as her social media posts suggest. She balances her studies with an intensive athletic training schedule and has admitted that her packed routine leaves her with little energy for socializing or entertainment.
“I’m here for golf. I didn’t come to Miami to party,” she said.
According to Kai, a typical day includes an early workout, golf practice and classes. She is also accompanied by US Secret Service agents throughout the university campus.
“That makes it pretty difficult to just go out somewhere,” she has said.
Kai also revealed that she has yet to spend a weekend in Miami. Instead, she makes the roughly 80-minute journey to the family home in Jupiter, Florida. There, she relaxes, spends time with her relatives and cooks.
