12:15 14 October, 2026Paul McCartney, 84, has admitted that he may remember the moment he was born. The legendary musician made the revelation during a new episode of Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, answering a question from his daughter, Stella McCartney, about his earliest memory.
“With these things, you never know whether you’ve just made it all up. But I have a feeling that I sort of remember being born,” McCartney said.
The musician was born at Walton Hospital in Liverpool. According to McCartney, the building was an old Victorian structure that he suspects may not originally have been used as a hospital.
“I kind of remember white tiles — really clinical white — and chrome instruments, and the clanging of metal. I was born with forceps. They had to pull me out,” McCartney recalled. Hearing this, Poehler noted that she had also been delivered with the help of forceps.
The singer, however, was careful not to insist that his recollection was accurate.
“I don’t know if that’s true,” he added.
McCartney also spoke about his family. He first became a father in 1969, after marrying photographer Linda McCartney, and adopted her daughter, Heather, from a previous marriage. The couple later had three more children together: Mary, Stella and James.
Linda died of breast cancer on April 17, 1998. In 2002, Paul married Heather Mills, with whom he welcomed his youngest daughter, Beatrice. The couple separated in 2006, when Beatrice was just three years old.
In February 2023, the musician reflected on how his relationship with his children had changed over the years. When they were young, he said, he tried to guide them and offer advice whenever they needed help. Now, however, his children are the ones helping him navigate life.
“I always tried to guide my kids a little bit if I thought they needed it — but mostly when they were younger. Now they’ve grown up and they’re guiding me!” he wrote on his website.
Meanwhile, McCartney’s daughter Stella has become one of the world’s best-known fashion designers. In an interview with TIME magazine in August 2023, she spoke about the privileges she had enjoyed thanks to her father’s fame.
“I was one of the first celebrity kids to be given that label, and I had the opportunity to choose. I’m very aware of how lucky I’ve been,” Stella admitted.
