16:23 15 October, 2026Former NASA astronaut Charles Duke has claimed that unidentified flying objects may have demonic origins and could be disguising themselves as angels of light. The 91-year-old Apollo 16 astronaut cited the Bible in support of his theory.
“God says that what we see is real, but, as the Bible says, the devil can appear as an angel of light,” Duke said during a recent appearance on the Christian Broadcasting Network.
“You can laugh at me if you want, but this is what God revealed to me, and I’m not going to abandon my beliefs,” the former astronaut insisted.
Duke became the youngest person to walk on the Moon when he took part in the Apollo 16 mission in 1972, at the age of 36. He now claims that mysterious beings from space, whom some people believe to be extraterrestrials, may be attempting to turn humanity away from the truth and lead it down the wrong path.
According to Duke, he had long suspected that UFOs were connected to malevolent forces, but those around him did not take his concerns seriously.
“Many years ago, I prayed and asked for a sign about UFOs. I had a feeling they were demonic in nature. But when I talked about it at Rotary Club meetings and other places, people laughed at me, and I had to leave the stage to ridicule,” he recalled.
Duke then decided to ask God for confirmation of his suspicions. He devised a kind of test: if a close friend of his, a businessman who had never discussed such topics, brought up UFOs on his own the following morning, Duke would take it as a sign.
According to the former astronaut, that is exactly what happened.
“The next morning, he said to me, ‘Charlie, come over. I want to talk to you about UFOs,’” Duke recalled.
A biblical passage from the Second Epistle to the Corinthians (11:14) ultimately reinforced his belief: “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.”
In this passage, the Apostle Paul warns believers about false apostles who present themselves as true followers of Christ. Duke appears to suggest that similar deception could also come from beings believed to have arrived from outer space.
However, the astronaut acknowledged that he had never personally encountered a UFO or experienced a close encounter with alleged extraterrestrials during his missions to the Moon.
