12:32 16 October, 2026Actor and Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke has taken aim at Hollywood’s most powerful figures, accusing them of trying to control the entire entertainment industry. In an interview with GQ, he predicted a widespread revolt against those in power and urged creative people to resist the dominance of money and algorithms.
“I believe in rebellion. I think people are going to wake up one day and fight back. There are going to be big movements in music, big movements in theater, people are going to come together,” Hawke said.
The actor believes that wealth and influence do not guarantee long-term victory, and that those who consider themselves the masters of the industry will ultimately lose.
“So don’t worry about the money and these greedy bastards who think they control everybody. In the end, they always lose. And sooner or later, they’re all going to die. They think they’re winning, but they’re actually losing because their lives are worth nothing,” Hawke said.
Hawke also criticized Hollywood’s financial system, noting that creators often earn less for the very projects they care about most.
“I notice a direct correlation: the more you love a project, the less you get paid for it. If you want to beat the algorithm, it’s very hard to expect to be paid well for it,” he explained.
