‘Euphoria’ Star Hunter Schafer Opens Up About Gender-Affirming Surgery: ‘I’m Thrilled with the Results’

Hunter Schafer, the 27-year-old actress known for her role in Euphoria, has revealed that she underwent gender-affirming genital surgery last December. In an interview with Elle, she said she was extremely happy with the outcome.

“I had bottom surgery in December. It was amazing, and I’m just thrilled with the results,” the actress shared.

Schafer, who began her gender transition as a teenager, admitted that for a long time she tried to embrace her body as it was and remain open to expressing her gender beyond traditional expectations.

“As I’ve said before, for a long time I embraced that gender fluidity in myself and really wanted to try living in the body I had. I thought there was something really cool and brave about that,” she said.

According to the actress, she decided to undergo surgery after realizing that the idealized vision of LGBTQ+ life she had aspired to did not reflect reality — just as her own expectations of how she wanted to look had changed.

Earlier this year, Schafer was recovering from the procedure and had to severely limit her physical activity.

“I think I was allowed to take no more than 150 steps a day. That’s practically nothing,” the actress recalled.

Schafer rose to widespread fame playing Jules, a transgender teenage girl, in Euphoria.
