13:22 21 October, 2026A high-profile family scandal involving OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has taken an unexpected turn after a court dismissed a lawsuit filed by his sister, Annie, who accused him of sexually abusing her during childhood. However, the decision was based on procedural grounds rather than an assessment of the allegations themselves.
According to the New York Post, U.S. District Judge Zachary Bluestone dismissed the lawsuit on October 20 after Annie Altman failed to attend an independent medical examination despite warnings from the court.
The lawsuit was filed in January 2025 in federal court in Missouri. Annie alleged that her brother sexually abused her between 1997 and 2006. According to her account, the alleged abuse began when she was just three years old and Sam was 12.
Altman has categorically denied the allegations. His family has also described Annie’s claims as false. The billionaire previously alleged that the accusations became public after relatives refused to provide his sister with additional financial support.
Meanwhile, Annie’s former attorney, Santos Perez, who withdrew from the case, said he continued to believe his former client.
The court did not determine whether the allegations were true. The lawsuit was dismissed because of a procedural violation, meaning the ruling does not establish that Annie’s claims were false. According to The Verge, the case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning the same lawsuit cannot be refiled in that court.
