15:18 22 October, 2026Queen Camilla suspected something was wrong with Meghan Markle from the very beginning, according to royal biographer Tom Bower. The wife of King Charles III reportedly believes Meghan has exerted such a powerful influence over Prince Harry that he is still unable to make decisions for himself, The Daily Beast reports.
Speaking on The Royalist podcast, Bower claimed Camilla had formed this opinion even before Harry and Meghan left the UK and moved to California.
“He was besotted with her. Meghan acquired power over him very quickly — I would say within the first 24 hours of meeting her. And he still seems to be hypnotized,” the biographer said.
According to Bower, Camilla is an experienced woman who understands people well and knows how to recognize their intentions. He suggested that she likely believes Harry remains under his wife’s influence and continues to do as he is told.
Bower described Camilla as Charles III’s closest and most trusted adviser, but questioned whether even her influence would be enough to help the king resolve the problems surrounding the Sussexes.
According to the biographer, one of the couple’s biggest problems is their constant need for publicity. This is particularly true of the Duchess of Sussex, who, Bower claims, wants to remain a regular fixture in the news and on social media.
“She particularly enjoys being in the newspapers every day — whether it’s having tea at a horse-racing event or posting something new on Instagram. But that stream of attention will soon dry up, and then she’ll start desperately looking for new ways to attract interest,” he said.
Bower also claimed that the couple were running out of reasons to make public appearances. Harry, he suggested, had nearly exhausted his opportunities to visit charitable organizations, while Meghan would have to find new ways to stay in the spotlight.
Bower identified the couple’s differing attitudes toward the British way of life as another source of tension in their relationship. According to the biographer, Harry would like to receive invitations to traditional shooting parties in the Cotswolds, while Meghan strongly dislikes the idea.
“Harry really wants to be invited to shooting parties. He likes imagining partridges and pheasants falling around his feet. And she hates it. She would much rather spend her time on a beach in California, but she has to put up with it,” Bower said.
