The hypercar shines like a mirror once again. Bugatti has completed the restoration of a unique Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse featuring a polished aluminum body. Once regarded as the most expensive version of the model ever made, the car has now regained its original brilliance thanks to specialists from the brand’s bespoke division, La Maison Pur Sang.

The hypercar’s story began in 2013, when racing driver Anthony Liu pushed the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse to 254.04 mph (approximately 409 km/h) at the Volkswagen Group’s test track in Germany. The car exceeded its claimed top speed by 18.54 mph, becoming the world’s fastest convertible at the time, according to Robb Report.

But for one wealthy Bugatti customer, that was not enough. He commissioned a unique example, chassis No. 8.100, featuring an exposed polished aluminum body. To create it, two aluminum blocks weighing a combined 20 metric tons were delivered to the automaker’s facility in Molsheim, France.

Twelve years later, the car changed hands. Its new owner, who lives in Monaco, approached Bugatti’s specialists to restore the hypercar to its original condition. The company has not disclosed the owner’s identity, although Robb Report speculates that it could be Formula One driver Fernando Alonso.

During the extensive restoration, specialists removed certain non-original components, smoothed the bodywork and repolished the aluminum to achieve an almost mirror-like finish. The interior is equally striking, upholstered in rich carmine-red leather complemented by exposed carbon-fiber and polished aluminum accents.

Under the hood, the legendary 8.0-liter W16 engine with four turbochargers remains unchanged, producing 1,184 horsepower. It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automated transmission, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.6 seconds.

Bugatti has not disclosed the cost of the restoration. However, it was almost certainly substantial: media reports suggest the car sold for approximately $5 million earlier this year.

Now restored to its former glory, the one-of-a-kind Veyron once again demonstrates how engineering excellence and exclusive design can turn a hypercar into a highly prized collector’s item.
