Johnny Depp Open to Returning to Pirates of the Caribbean: Actor Reveals One Condition for His Comeback

Johnny Depp, who vowed never to appear in another Pirates of the Caribbean film during his legal battle with Amber Heard, has seemingly had a change of heart. The 63-year-old actor says he would be willing to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the sixth installment of the franchise — but only under one condition.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Depp said he would like to help the filmmakers bring the story to a fitting conclusion.

“If it’s done exactly right, the only thing I really want is to help them finish the story on a proper note,” the actor said.

He also confirmed that he would be happy to work on any project with producer Jerry Bruckheimer, with whom he shares a longstanding friendship.

“I’d be ready to work with Bruckheimer on anything tomorrow. If it’s Jerry, I trust him,” Depp admitted.

In August, Bruckheimer confirmed that he was in talks with the actor about a sixth film. He said work on the script was already underway. However, sources told Deadline that Jack Sparrow may not be the central character in the next installment, with Margot Robbie’s character reportedly expected to take the lead.

Gore Verbinski, who directed the first three films, has no plans to return to the franchise. Orlando Bloom, who played Will Turner, has left the door open to a reunion of the original cast. Keira Knightley, who portrayed Elizabeth Swann, has said, however, that her pirate adventures are firmly in the past.
