Students at the University of Sheffield derived formula for the ideal New Year tree. Future mathematicians Nicole Raytem and Alex Craig conducted a study on the correct execution of the Christmas tree to order a network of British department stores.

Raytem and Craig said that the development of the formula took them about two hours. Students expressed the hope that their findings will be useful to those who would buy a Christmas tree for Christmas and New Year.

Twenty-year-old scientists offer to decorate fir tree with thirty-seven balls and put on top of decoration a star or an angel, the size of which shall not exceed one-tenth of the height of the tree, Lenta.ru informs quoting Metro. Authors state that the ideal length of decorated Christmas tree is 920 centimeters.

In order to calculate the required length of garland, it is necessary to multiply the height of the tree in inches by the number pi (3.14). For example, for a tree of 183 centimeters, a garland of 574 centimeters in length is required.
