Drake and The Weeknd boycott Grammy Awards

The nominees for the 2023 Grammy Awards will be announced very soon. But among the nominees for the most influential award in the music industry will once again not be world idols Drake and The Weeknd. The performers have decided to boycott the Grammys until the end.

Pitchfork reported that they have not submitted their new albums for further nomination. Despite the fact that their releases could obviously win not only public love but also recognition from the Recording Academy, Drake and The Weeknd are purposefully turning down the opportunity to win the award.

The decision to ignore the Grammys came to The Weeknd last year when he accused the Academy of corruption after the award ignored his song Blinding Lights, which was on the Billboard Hot 100 list for a year.

He noted in his Twitter that the Grammys remain corrupt

Drake, on the other hand, has been unhappy with the Recording Academy's choices for not the first year. The scandal began back in 2017, when his hit Hotline Bling was nominated in the Best Rap Song category, even though the artist himself considers it a pop song. “Even though ‘Hotline Bling’ is not a rap song … the only category they can manage to fit me in is a rap category,” the “God’s Plan” crooner explained on the OVO Sound radio show the day after the 2017 ceremony. “Maybe because I’ve rapped in the past or because I’m black, I can’t figure out why.”

“I love the rap world and I love the rap community, but you’re right. I write pop songs for a reason,” he continued. “I wanna be like Michael Jackson. I wanna be like artists that I’ve looked up to. Those are pop songs, but I never get any credit for that…I won two awards last night, but I don’t even want them, because it feels weird for some reason.”
