Lead singer of the Television rock band Tom Verlaine dies aged 74

Tom Verlaine, lead singer and guitarist of the American punk rock band Television, died at the age of 74,  The New York Times reported.

The musician's death was announced by his daughter, Jesse Paris Smith. According to her, Verlaine died after a short illness.

Tom Verlaine's real name was Thomas Miller. He is considered a pioneer of the punk rock and post-punk genres. In Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time ranking, the musician ranks 90th.
