The tallest clock tower in the world will appear in Dubai

17:01, January 23

Dubai is set to add another landmark skyscraper to its skyline. The Aeternitas Tower will be the world's tallest residential clock tower, standing at a staggering 450 meters tall, more than four times the height of London's Big Ben, and just 22 meters short of the world's tallest residential building, the Central Park Tower in New York City.

The Aeternitas Tower, which will be the second tallest clock tower in the world (after the Royal Clock Tower of Mecca in Saudi Arabia), is the result of a partnership between Dubai developer London Gate and Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Franck Muller.

London Gate purchased the site in Dubai Marina, where an unfinished 106-storey structure had already begun, recognizing that the tower's monumental size required a dramatic façade, Tom Hill, the developer's media relations coordinator, told CNN.

“We believe the clock will be visible from six kilometers away due to the sheer height of the building,” Hill said, adding that the clock face will be huge: 40 meters high and 30 meters wide. “We wanted to do something new that hasn’t been done before in Dubai,” Hill said.

The residential tower consists of 649 apartments, including one- and three-bedroom apartments, as well as villas and townhouse duplexes. With housekeeping, concierge services, and 24-hour valet and porter service, residents will have access to hotel-style services and amenities, but with the privacy and comforts of home.

According to London Gate, the project will be handed over to residents in 2027.

The tower's name is Latin for "eternity" and is inspired by the Franck Muller Aeternitas watch collection, one of the brand's most complex "perpetual calendar" models, said Franck Muller Middle East managing director Erol Baliyan.

Note that, Swiss Armenian businessman Vartan Sirmakes is Co-founder and CEO of the Franck Muller Group.
