“Moonlit Night,” the landscape painting by Ivan Aivazovsky, will be put up for auction, RIA Novosti reports. Experts estimate the price of this work at 100 million rubles.
The sale is organized by the Moscow Auction House. The auction will take place on Sunday. Collectors will be offered more than 130 lots, including works by Russian painters Ilya Repin, Isaac Levitan, Vasily Vereshchagin, Konstantin Korovin, Boris Kustodiev, and Nicholas Roerich.
In 2020, Aivazovsky’s painting “The Bay of Naples” was sold at Sotheby’s for $2.9 million. This canvas became the top lot of the sale, and its final price was almost twice the estimate. Back in 2012, the same auction house found a buyer for Aivazovsky’s landscape painting “View of Constantinople and the Bosphorus.” This work managed to fetch $5.2 million.
