Ivan Aivazovsky’s painting “Moonlit Night” from 1878 went under the hammer for 92 million rubles.
“The greatest excitement among art connoisseurs was expectedly caused by the pearl of the collection and the main top lot of the auction - the seascape of Constantinople with the towers ‘Moonlit Night’ by Ivan Aivazovsky. The painting from 1878 was purchased at auction for 92 million rubles,” said Auction Holding.
The painting is a canvas depicting a seascape of Constantinople with towers.
Other paintings were also sold at the auction, including “Patriarch Filaret” by Ilya Repin (29.5 million rubles) and “The Himalayas” by Nicholas Roerich (12 million rubles). The total sales amounted to 235.5 million rubles. Earlier, Auction Holding reported that Aivazovsky’s landscape “Moonlit Night” would be put up for auction for 100 million rubles.
