Vacheron Constantin is once again offering VIP clients the opportunity to wear a visual and technical masterpiece on their wrist, according to Robb Report.
The Swiss luxury watchmaker has given a select few the opportunity to reproduce a piece from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection on a watch dial using intricate enamel painting. This collaboration follows the brand's similar partnership with the Louvre in Paris.
Almost any piece of art can be selected, although there are some copyright restrictions on modern and religious works. Considering that the canvas size on your wrist is only 38-42mm, the focus of the painting must be chosen to fit on the dial. The brand says that the chosen piece of art comes with a five-year exclusive guarantee after purchase and another customer cannot select the same focus on the same painting.
But given the price of these pieces, it is unlikely that the customer of such work would want to choose a masterpiece already made for another Vacheron VIP. The cost of this watch has not been disclosed yet, but it is said to be in the six- to seven-figure range.
Would you expect anything less from a manufacturer who can recreate Van Gogh's 1889 painting "Wheatfield with Cypress Trees" on canvas just millimeters thick, using a "brush" the size of a hair?
Purchasing one of these watches will include a private tour of the Met with experts and curators, as well as a visit to the Vacheron Constantin Manufacture in Geneva to meet the master watchmakers and artisans behind these watches.
