The third and “final” Downton Abbey film is in development, said actress Imelda Staunton, who played Queen Mary's lady-in-waiting Lady Maud Bagshaw in the series of the same name, and her husband Jim Carter played butler Mr. Carson.
Asked by a BBC Radio 2 presenter about reports that there would be another Downton Abbey, Staunton said: "There will be one last film—that's all."
Downton Abbey aired on ITV from 2010 to 2015, followed by two movies in 2019 and 2022, earning £225 million at the global box office. Filming of the new project is expected to begin this summer, The Sun reports. It added that Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti will return to the cast of the final film. Giamatti had appeared as Harold Levinson in the 2013 Christmas special of the TV show.
