Beyoncé becomes first black woman to top Billboard country albums chart

15:22, April 10

Beyoncé has made history again. Her latest album, Act II: Cowboy Carter, reached number one on the Billboard country albums chart, making her the first black woman to top the chart since its inception in 1964.

The album topped also the all-genre Billboard 200, becoming her eighth No. 1 album.

As a black woman bringing back country music, Beyoncé is pushing back against the genre's stereotypical associations with whiteness.

Talk of Beyoncé's exploration of country music began when she arrived at this year's Grammy Awards wearing a cowboy outfit, making a bold statement.

Then, during the National Football League Super Bowl, she released two country songs, "Texas Hold 'Em" and "16 Carriages," which eventually led to the release of "Cowboy Carter."
