Gerard Depardieu placed in custody on sexual assault charges

15:16, April 29

Gerard Depardieu has been placed in custody at a Paris police station on charges of sexually assaulting two female employees on movie sets.

The 75-year-old French actor, who is already under investigation for multiple similar crimes including rape, is accused of molesting staff on the sets of two films.

A source said Depardieu "was summoned to a Paris police station today and is currently in custody." “He is being questioned regarding two alleged sexual assaults that occurred in 2014 and 2021.”

Depardieu categorically denies all accusations against him.

The first plaintiff said she was attacked in September 2021 when Depardieu groped her and used harsh language towards her. It is alleged that the witness was able to pull him away from the woman.

Depardieu later said: “I apologize because it is necessary to apologize,” but continued to call the woman a “whore,” a source told news outlet BFM.

The second plaintiff alleges that she was attacked in March 2014 while shooting the short film The Wizard and the Siamese.

Also, the film crew had met at Depardieu's Paris home, where the actor reportedly harassed a 24-year-old production assistant and made lewd comments.

This plaintiff's lawyer, Karine Durieux-Dibol, said the evidence pointed to "sexual assault, harassment and abuse."
