One Hundred Years of Solitude: Netflix presents Gabriel García Márquez masterpiece’s movie adaptation teaser

16:17, April 19

Netflix has released a new teaser for the series One Hundred Years of Solitude. The series, an adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez's novel, will premiere later this year.

The story, spanning several generations, tells the story of the Buendia family and the story of the founding of the mythical city of Macondo.

The Spanish-language series was filmed in Colombia with the support of the García Márquez family, whose famous novel has sold more than 50 million copies and been translated into 40 languages.

Netflix released a brief teaser in 2022 to coincide with the 40th anniversary of García Márquez winning the Nobel Prize in Literature, but the new teaser reveals much more.

The new teaser shows Aureliano Babilonia reading Melquiades' mythical diary and then takes viewers to Macondo, where he witnesses Colonel Aureliano Buendía standing before a firing squad and remembering the day his father took him on an ice quest.

In 2019, it became known that Netflix had acquired the rights to adapt the book, which had not previously been adapted for movie screen.

The series was created by Jose Rivera, Natalia Santa, Camila Bruges, Maria Camila Arias, and Albatross Gonzalez.

Netflix said it is "one of the most ambitious projects in Latin America to date, brought to life by the most talented artists from Colombia and Latin America."
