Andy Serkis returns to Lord of the Rings universe

11:16, May 10

British Armenian actor Andy Serkis will return to the Lord of the Rings universe. In the new part of this movie franchise, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Serkis will play the main role, and will also act as director and executive producer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, news of the new film was confirmed by the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav.

An entertainment industry executive said that several Lord of the Rings franchise projects are "currently in the early stages of script development" and that the new installment is planned for release in 2026.

Peter Jackson, who directed all of the movies in the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit series based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, will remain involved in the new project, as a producer.

The screenwriters of all the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films also will write the script for this new movie.

Serkis shared a statement, expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming project. “Yessss, my Precious. It’s time to once again venture into the unknown with my dear friends, the extraordinary and incomparable guardians of Middle-earth Peter, Fran and Philippa,” he said.

Plot details for the upcoming installment in the Lord of the Rings franchise, however, are currently being kept under wraps.
