23:19, May 3

Eight luxury and personalized watches from Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher are up for auction and could fetch more than $4.8 million.

According to Christie's auction house, these rare watches will go on display in New York from Friday to Sunday, the weekend of the Miami Grand Prix, before auction in Geneva on May 13.

Schumacher's family owns many watches collected by the champion racing driver over the years, and "they recently decided to part with specific timepieces from the collection that collectors can appreciate," Remi Guillemin, head of Christie's watch department, told CNN.

Notable examples include the platinum F.P. Journe Vagabondage 1, which is valued at almost half the estimated value of the entire collection, is up to $2.2 million.

As per the auction house, the white gold Royal Oak chronograph was commissioned as a personalized gift for the seven-time Formula 1 winner from his early mentor and former Ferrari CEO, Jean Todt.

Schumacher suffered a traumatic brain injury while skiing in 2013 and has not appeared in public since then.
