Little time has left before the start of the Eurovision 2014 Song Contest, which will be held in the Danish capital city Copenhagen. Famous Armenian showman, comedian, and singer Aram MP3 (Aram Sargsyan), who will represent Armenia at the event and with his song “Not Alone,” will compete in the first semifinal on May 6. Switzerland’s participant Sebalter, on the other hand, will perform in the second semifinal on May 8 with his song “Hunter Of Stars,” and try to make to the final on May 10.
Until then, however, NEWS.am STYLE caught up with Switzerland’s representative.
First of all, congratulations on such a great song! The Armenian music fans have appreciated “Hunter of Stars,” and you are one of the most popular Eurovision participants in Armenia now!
Oh, thank you! I am very pleased to hear that.
Tell us how are your preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest going.
It is going well. I continued working on my song and on the performance. Moreover, we visited several countries that take part in the ESC this year such as Malta, the Netherlands and England. There are some concerts in Switzerland, too. So we are very busy.
Can you tell a little bit about the storyof “Hunter Of Stars?”
Last summer I did a road trip in the US, and one night I was travelling from Kansas City to Denver. I kept staring at the stars and the humongous landscape around and felt like I wanted not only to stare at the them but also to touch them. Then I got inspired and started to write the lyrics. The melody also popped up quite spontaneously and I recorded it on my phone by whistling, since I did not have my violin with me. The song has basically a main key of interpretation: There is always a clash between confidence and non-confidence in myself when it comes to flirt and love.
What are your favorite songs of Eurovision of previous years?
Last year, I very much liked the winner-song «Only Teardrops» by Emmelie de Forest. My all-time favorite ESC song is «Fairy Tale» by Alexandr Rybak. It is a fantastic song.
What kind of music you like to listen to generally?
I like folk rock singers such as Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Donovan, Bruce Springsteen. But also pop folk singers like Simon and Garfunkel or James Blunt. But actually, I consider myself to be quite curious about music, and therefore I am interested in listening to all different kind of music.
You are quite experienced musician. Do you feel nervous before coming out on the stage?
Of course I`m getting a bit nervous thinking about the show. But I will try to stay myself and to give my very best on stage.
How do you best like to spend your time when you aren't busy working?
Music is always very important in my free time. It`s my passion. I also enjoy very much hiking and biking. And I travel as often as I can.
Have you heard Armenian entry? What do you think of that?
I think the song has got a lot of potential. “Not Alone” is a very strong, emotional and expressive song. And it`s very well sung.
Do you have a message to Armenian readers and followers of Eurovision?
Thank you very much for supporting me! I am really happy to be part of the ESC this year.
