Scarface is getting a makeover

12:36, March 20

It is one of the most quoted films of all time, after hitting screens in 1983. And now Universal will be remaking the beloved film Scarface once more, The Hollywood Reporter revealed on Wednesday.

The story has already been made into a movie twice before, but will now be set in Los Angeles and has screenwriter Jonathan Herman and director Pablo Larraín attached.

The website first reported the remake was in development in 2011 and that the film would have a modern day twist.

Jonathan, who will rewrite the screenplay, previously wrote a draft for the upcoming film Straight Outta Compton, which explores the origins of the rap group N.W.A. Currently no actors are attached to the upcoming film, which The Hollywood Reporter noted in 2011 would not be a complete remake.

Like the previous two films - which were released in 1983 and 1932 - the upcoming West Coast installment will explore the journey of an immigrant who climbs to the top of the underground crime world.

Paul Muni starred in the 1932 version, while Al Pacino portrayed Tony Montana in the 1983 cult classic hit.
