Freddie Mercury's London home up for sale for $38M

12:12, February 28

The former London home of legendary rock musician Freddie Mercury is available for purchase—but for those with $38 million to spare.

Garden Lodge in Kensington, west London, was home to the Queen frontman for 11 years and boasts a Japanese lounge, library bar, and music center.

According to Knight Frank, which is handling the sale, Mercury had bought the property in 1980. Working with specialist interior architect and designer Robin Moore Ede, Mercury renovated the house over the next decade, using the finest materials and his personal design taste to create what he called his "country home in central London."

He designed his home to be "a memorable, cozy place that reflects his vibrant personality and eclectic vision." In that spirit, the dining room was painted citrus yellow, reportedly Mercury's favorite color, with complementary jewel tones on the room's cornices.

The living room, which once housed the grand piano on which Mercury composed “Bohemian Rhapsody,” overlooks a garden decorated with large magnolias and “oriental-style” water features.
