Bruce Willis' family celebrates his birthday amid battle with dementia

14:23, March 20

Bruce Willis' family and friends are celebrating a major milestone in the actor's life just a year after he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

The daughters of the Die Hard star, his current wife Emma Heming Willis, and ex-wife Demi Moore congratulated the actor on his 69th birthday. “Dad, being loved by you is such a gift,” his daughter Rumer wrote on Instagram alongside a carousel of old photos. “You are the most cheerful, gentle, charming, extraordinary, talented and magical dad. Looking through these photos this morning, I am simply filled with the deepest gratitude that we chose to spend this life together.”

A friend's daughter, Scout, wrote a similar message on Instagram: “It's amazing how so little has changed when so much has changed. My father is one of my best friends, perhaps on a deeper level than ever. I treasure his affection and great love.” Sharing memories she had with her father as a child, Scout praised Bruce for "loving his family" and thanked her followers for loving him so much over the years.

“What you might not know, but maybe you could imagine, is that being in his arms is the safest place in this whole wide world,” noted his wife, Emma. “He’s a true gentleman,” she added.

"Happy Birthday my love. You are the gift that keeps on giving.” And Demi Moore, who was married to Bruce from 1987 to 2000, shared a recent photo of them together, writing: “Happy birthday BW! We love you and are so grateful to you."
