Monaco to host 5th Superyacht Chef Competition

21:02, March 27

The 5th Superyacht Chef Competition will take place in Monaco in April. This culinary battle takes place on board Monaco's superyachts and is called the International Superyacht Chef Competition, organized by the prestigious Yacht Club of Monaco (YCM), in collaboration with Bluewater, reports Monacolife.

Nine exceptionally talented chefs will be there to showcase their culinary skills. Last year's winner was Marco Tognon from the yacht Planet Nine. He and Chef Danny Davis, host of Beyond the Line with Chef Danny Davis and author of two vegan books, will weigh in on this year's contestants' dishes.

Both incredibly talented chefs boast over 25 years of experience working on private yachts.

This year's culinary event promises to be an outstanding showcase of global talent and exquisite tastes. The international jury will be headed by Breton chef, winner of three Michelin stars, Glenn Ville. Together with him, Joël Gareau, President of Goûts et Saveurs, and an outstanding group of renowned and experienced chefs will take on a decisive role in selecting the winners.

This gathering of culinary talent promises an unforgettable experience, highlighting the exquisite interplay of cuisine and luxury yacht lifestyle. Chefs are required to comply with waste management criteria under the supervision of Chef Duncan Biggs.

The prestigious competition sees who can think on their feet, make the most of local ingredients, and create amazing, world-class dishes. In addition to cooking, the chef on the yacht also serves as a manager.

From training chefs, managing the galley and its staff, managing inventory and food, everything falls on his shoulders.

The most important aspect is maintaining safety and hygiene standards in the galley, as well as creating Michelin-level menus and mouth-watering food presentations. Yacht chef salaries are quite impressive, with those working on a large luxury yacht earning between $70,000 and $100,000 per year. On ultra-luxury yachts with gourmet food, salaries can exceed $150,000.

“Each year, this event brings together talented chefs from around the world who are ready to take on the challenge of creating unforgettable culinary experiences and showcasing gastronomic excellence on superyachts,” said YCM Secretary General Bernard d’Alessandri. “The Superyacht Chef Competition continues to make its mark on the world of yachting, promoting the values of our collective approach ‘Monaco is the capital of advanced yachting.’”
