Shakira, sons consider ‘Barbie’ movie ‘emasculating’

11:23, April 2

My sons hated this movie. They found it emasculating. And I, to a certain extent, agree with this, Shakira told Allure magazine, regarding the movie Barbie.

“I am raising two boys. I want them to feel strong too, [while] respecting women. I love pop culture’s attempts to empower women without denying men the ability to be men and protect and provide,” she explained. “I believe in giving women all the tools and believing that we can do all this without losing our essence, without losing our femininity. I think men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose. We complement each other, and this complement should not be lost,” the singer noted.
