Christie's to auction designer Vivienne Westwood’s personal wardrobe

13:34, April 23

Christie's auction house will put up for auction the personal wardrobe of designer Vivienne Westwood. Westwood's husband and creative director of her brand, Andreas Kronthaler, has prepared special looks from her wardrobe that will be presented at two auctions. More than 200 lots will go under the hammer, covering four decades of Westwood’s work, writes Hypebeast.

The earliest example presented at auctions belongs to the designer’s collection FW1983/84. In addition, the auctions will benefit a number of charities, including The Vivienne Foundation, Amnesty International, and Médecins Sans Frontières.

“Vivienne Westwood's sense of activism, art and style is embedded in every piece she creates. Christie's pre-sale exhibition and auction will showcase her extraordinary vision through a selection of images that commemorate important moments not only in her career, but also in her personal life,” said Christie's Head of Sales and Director of Private and Iconic Collections Adrian Hume Sayer. “This will be a unique opportunity for audiences to experience both the public and private worlds of Grand Dame Vivienne Westwood and raise funds for the causes in which she believed so passionately.”

Christie's will host a free public exhibition of the collection at Christie's London headquarters, from June 14 to 24.
