A Suzhou court issued a preliminary ruling in Burberry's claim against Xinboli Trading Co., owner of the Baneberry brand. The British brand accused Chinese businesses of copying infringement.
Baneberry is one of the fastest-growing Chinese brands. Over the past year and a half, it has opened 40 offline stores expanding online sales. The Baneberry logo features a rider - just like Burberry's does.
The trial is still pending.
According to Business of Fashion, such preliminary decisions are rare for the Chinese legal system.
