The highly anticipated Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black has unveiled its first trailer - and while the singer may be difficult to emulate, actress Marisa Abela does a pretty convincing job.
With Winehouse's "Back to Black" playing in the background, Abela walks the streets of London, jumping from stage to tattoo parlor to her childhood home. “I don’t write songs to become famous. I write songs because I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t,” says Abela, fully reflecting the late singer’s aesthetic. “I want people to hear my voice and just forget about their problems.”
According to the film's official tagline: "Back to Black is a never-before-seen look at Amy Winehouse's early rise to fame and the release of her groundbreaking studio album Back to Black. Told from Amy's point of view, the film is an unapologetic look at the woman behind the phenomenon and the relationships that inspired one of the most legendary albums of all time."
Blake Fielder-Civil, Winehouse's ex-husband, is played by Jack O'Connell. The biopic was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
"Back to Black" premieres in the UK and Ireland on April 12 and in the US on May 10.
