Taylor Swift has officially reached billionaire status, 17 years into her illustrious career.
On Tuesday, Forbes released its list of billionaires in 2024, and Taylor moved up to fourteenth place on the list of celebrities. Her net worth is estimated at $1.1 billion, based on earnings from her Eras tour, the value of her music catalog, and her real estate portfolio. That's on top of the massive earnings from her first six albums, which she re-recorded while negotiating with streaming platforms about how to monetize her music.
This achievement is especially monumental as she is among the few who have achieved this milestone "single-handedly through music and performance."
No one has profited more from her reality star fame than Kim Kardashian, who has become a billionaire thanks to her beauty and clothing brands.
Her shapewear line, Skims, was valued at $4 billion in 2023, and in 2020, she sold 20% of cosmetics company KKW Beauty to Coty for $200 million. Kim, who ranks sixth in the ranking, is worth $1.7 billion.
She is ahead of Jay-Z in fifth place with a net worth of $2.5 billion. The first hip-hop billionaire sold a 50% stake in his champagne brand Armand de Brignac to luxury goods giant LVMH in 2021 for at least $300 million, as well as a majority stake shares of its brandy brand D'Usse in 2023 for $750 million.
He also owns stakes in Uber and Block. His net worth, however, does not include his wife Beyoncé's half-billion-dollar fortune.
The top five celebrity billionaires included Oprah Winfrey ($2.8 billion).
The daytime talk show host became the first black female billionaire in 2003. She has since grown her brand into a media and business empire, including real estate investments and her own production company.
Michael Jordan. Net worth: $3.2 billion.
Jordan became the first billionaire athlete in 2015, but it wasn't because of his legendary basketball career. He has earned over $1.8 billion from brand partnerships, most famously the Nike Jordan brand. Also, he made a very smart investment in 2010, purchasing the NBA's Charlotte Hornets for $175 million. He then sold the team in August 2023 for $3 billion.
Steven Spielberg. Net worth: $4.8 billion.
Spielberg joined the list in 1994, becoming the first filmmaker to make the list following a string of hits such as Jaws, Jurassic Park, and Schindler's List. “I’m a player,” he told Forbes that same year. “I haven’t received a salary for almost ten years.” Instead, he negotiated to receive a percentage of his movies' gross sales, and still receives a cut of every ticket sold at Universal theme parks thanks to the Indiana Jones series.
George Lucas. Net worth: $5.5 billion.
The Star Wars director, who debuted as a billionaire in 1997, is the world's richest celebrity thanks in large part to his production company LucasFilm, which he sold to Disney in 2012 for more than $4 billion in cash and stock.
