11:01, September 17

By Shushan Shatikyan YEREVAN. – Indian cinema—or Bollywood, as they say—has turned 100. In this connection, and at the initiative of the Embassy of India in Armenia, the Indian Film Week kicked off Tuesday in capital city Yerevan.

The official opening brought together Armenian Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan, Indian Ambassador Suresh Babu, Ukrainian Ambassador Ivan Kukhta, outgoing Chinese Ambassador Tian Changchun, and several other officials.

Ambassador Babu told NEWS.am STYLE that the Indian Film Week is held for the second time in Yerevan. “Indian films are nothing new for Armenia. Four [Indian] films shot recently, and whose main purpose is entertainment, will be screened during the week,” the Indian diplomat added.

Separately, Armenian Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan told NEWS.am STYLE that it is interesting for her to see what has changed in Indian cinema over these years.“Today, I am curious to see how Indian cinema has transformed, what has changed, or how it has preserved its traditions one hundred years later,” Poghosyan noted.
