John Galliano leaving Maison Margiela?

23:01, July 25

John Galliano’s resume is legendary—he’s been the creative director of Givenchy, Dior, Oscar de la Renta, and Maison Margiela. But after a decade at Margiela, it looks like he’s ready to shake things up and bring his creative direction to another luxury fashion house, Hypebae reports.

Galliano’s tenure at Margiela has been impressive. His latest haute couture collection in January took social media by storm, stunning audiences both in person and online, and helping to fuel the popularity of the “Tabi” shoe.

So the question on everyone’s mind is: Where is Galliano headed? Multiple fashion industry sources have said Galliano is ready for a change. Maison Margiela owner Renzo Rosso has reportedly asked him to stay on multiple times, but the current creative director has decided not to renew his contract.

While there are rumors that John Galliano could return to Dior, some believe it is more likely that he will take over Fendi, which is run by Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi. While Jones has been praised for his work at Dior Men, his work at Fendi has received mixed reviews, possibly opening the door for Galliano to join.

Chanel is also looking for a new creative director, but Galliano is unlikely to be considered due to his past allegations of anti-Semitism and the house's ties to a prominent Jewish family.
