Girl, 8, accuses parents of betrayal after finding out Santa doesn’t exist

22:15, December 25

An 8-year-old girl from the US state of Arizona felt so betrayed after learning the truth about Santa Claus that she wrote an angry letter to her parents, calling them “dream crushers” and “traitors.” Her furious correspondence is currently circulating on Reddit.

“While it was heartbreaking to see her in pain, we couldn’t help but smile at the tenderness and touching nature of her letters,” Derek Rogers, the disappointed girl’s father, told Newsweek. He and his wife always made an effort to keep the Santa myth alive for their daughter’s sake, he said.

“Our daughter had an Elf on the Shelf who was a kind elf and a Christmas friend,” Rogers said. “She would write letters to Santa, and sometimes he would even write back.”

However, their Christmas story took a hit when a classmate told her that Santa Claus and the Elf on the Shelf don’t exist.

“[He said] the only people who still believe in it are me and my family. Mom, Dad… is it true? Santa is real?” she demanded of her parents.

That’s when they decided to shed some light on the Christmas myth. And while Rogers thought they had done a good job, he found out they hadn’t when his daughter burst into tears and exclaimed, “You lied to me for eight years?!”

She then wrote a letter saying she would never forgive the “liars and traitors” who had “broke her heart.”

Rogers said that while his daughter was initially angry at them for a while, things have since returned to normal. “She’s even happy to help wrap presents, put them under the tree, and keep the Christmas spirit alive.”
