Robert De Niro plays two mob bosses in Barry Levinson's upcoming gangster film 'The Alto Knights'. De Niro plays mob bosses Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, the real-life leaders of the Genovese crime family in New York.

The film also stars Debra Messing as Costello's wife Bobby, Catherine Narducci as Genovese's wife Anna, and Cosmo Jarvis. 'The Alto Knights' tells the story of the Italian-American mobsters of the mid-20th century and Genovese's attempt to kill Costello in 1957.

The trailer opens with De Niro's character Vito Genovese meeting fellow mob boss Frank Costello, also played by De Niro, at a restaurant. "You're either in or out," Genovese says. Suddenly, Costello takes a bullet, presumably from Genovese, prompting him to try to give up the mob life. But it doesn't look like Costello will let him.

In March 2023, Levinson described the story of Knights of Alto as being about "best friends who become mortal enemies." Of De Niro's dual role, Levinson said, "It's amazing. He's such an amazing actor. It was literally like two different people, like I was working with two different actors."
Fintom is set to be released on March 21.
